St. Louis Rams Re-Sign Kenny Britt to Two-Year Deal

The St. Louis Rams continue to build their roster for 2015, making things official with Kenny Britt, who is likely to be their number one receiver this coming season. Britt, who got a one-year “prove-it” contract from the Rams for 2014 after several years of inactivity with the Tennessee Titans, definitely reaped the benefits, as he received a two-year deal worth nearly $14 million ($4.3 million guaranteed) according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.

The 6-foot-3, 223-pound Britt had the most productive season by a Rams receiver since Torry Holt’s final year in St. Louis in 2008, finishing with 48 catches for 748 yards and three touchdowns. That’s extra impressive considering that Britt had just one catch through the Rams’ first two games.

He also seemed to have a profound effect on the play of Brian Quick, a receiver with a similar build and playing style to Britt, who had struggled through his first two seasons in the league. Quick was averaging 3.6 catches and 53.6 yards per game before going down with a season-ending shoulder injury in the seventh game of the season. In those seven games, he collected more catches and yardage than he had accumulated in either of his first two full seasons in the NFL.

  • If Quick bounces back to his early 2014 form and Britt continues to put up the kind of production that he did in his first year as a Ram, the Rams should have a solid receiving corps for 2015. It certainly doesn’t hurt that they’ll have a legitimate NFL-caliber starting quarterback in Nick Foles, compared to the backup types like Shaun Hill and Austin Davis who commanded the offense for the duration of 2014. Adding in Stedman Bailey, who had some major flashes over the second half of the 2014 season, and Tavon Austin, who may finally be ready to break out with a new offensive coordinator and quarterback, the Rams should have a solid passing game for 2015, even if their emphasis continues to be on the run.
