With the inevitable need for a seventh defenseman on the roster following the abdominal injury that Kevin Shattenkirk suffered this month, the St. Louis Blues finally pulled the trigger and recalled defenseman Petteri Lindbohm from the AHL Chicago Wolves on Wednesday morning.

The 21-year-old Lindbohm has had several tours of duties with the NHL club this year, his lengthiest having been his most recent one, which took place from the end of November until late December. During that period, Lindbohm skated in eight games, registering one assist, while consistently displacing either Ian Cole or Chris Butler from the lineup. He also participated in one game against the Anaheim Ducks during the first week of the season, making his NHL debut as the club needed an extra boost on the blueline in the absence of Carl Gunnarsson.

With Lindbohm back in St. Louis, he’s likely to see at least semi-regular action due to his lack of experience (it’s his first season in America) and the need to keep his development on track. With the trade deadline soon to occur on March 2 and rosters expanding after that date, it’s possible that Lindbohm could stick with the Blues for the duration of the schedule, as he’ll be good to have around for depth purposes even after Shattenkirk returns, since the All-Star defenseman may take some time to get up to speed following his injury.

In 41 games for the Wolves this year, Lindbohm has six goals, 17 assists, a plus-minus rating of plus-5, and 56 penalty minutes.
