Our Cardinals came up a bit short for the sweep, but here is our series recap…

Outcome:

In the home opener, the Cardinals were able to jump out to an early 3-0 lead on a bases clearing double by Yadier Molina in the 1st inning. The St Louis Cardinals were able to get the score to 5-1 but the Reds added two runs but couldn’t overcome the deficit as the Cardinals held on for a 5-3 victory. On Tuesday, the Cardinals got down early but that didn’t stop the Cardinals as they were able to overcome the early 4-0 deficit by getting 4 runs in the bottom of the 2nd. They outscored the Reds 3-1 after the 2nd inning to win 7-5. The Cardinals had a deja vu moment on Wednesday as they got down early again but were not able to overcome it as they lost 4-0.

Player of the series:

Yadier Molina

He had 5 hits, 2 doubles, 1 home run and 4 RBIs in this series. That’s what you want to see from your best players in each series that one of them has those series that help lift the entire team to victory.

Epilogue:

The dreaded Chicago Cubs await the St Louis Cardinals for their first series of 2014. The Cubs are once again tripping over their own feet to begin the season as they are 2-5 as this article is published. Another series win should be the goal but the St Louis Cardinals should go for the series sweep against the Cubs. Get this series sweep and then head to Milwaukee and get a solid foothold at the top of the NL Central.
