Within one at-bat Shelby Miller gave up a solo home run to Daniel Nava giving the Red Sox an early 1-0 lead. Not an ideal start to say the lease for the young pitcher. However his next eight batters failed to reach base, five of those were to strikeouts. Miller showed his ability to dominate with an aggressive fastball and off-speed pitches, he got four of his strikeouts with the batter looking, which is a great sign early in Spring Training.

The Cardinals took the lead after a two-run blast from minor league first-baseman, Xavier Scruggs, and that would prove to be the game winner in the second inning. In inning three and four the Cardinals tacked on another five runs to extend the lead thanks to timely hitting from Allen Craig and Matt Adams.

The Cardinals tried to be aggressive on the base paths but both Scruggs and Pete Kozma were picked off attempting to steal a base.

The Cardinals take on the Minnesota Twins Thursday at 12:05 then on Friday they play a split squad game between the Miami Marlins and New York Mets, the Marlins squad plays at 12:05, the Mets squad plays at 12:10.
