The St Louis Cardinals have begun Spring Training to defend their National League Pennant. As pitching is a crucial aspect of the game of baseball, we will have a 3 part preview of the St Louis Cardinals pitching. Today, we will preview the relievers.

Projected Relievers

Kevin Siegrist

Trevor Rosenthal

Seth Maness

Randy Choate

Keith Butler

Carlos Martinez

Jason Motte

Outlook

The strength of any MLB team is their relievers. The Cardinals have one of the youngest relievers in the majors and they are very good. Jason Motte’s recovery has been delayed for 2 months but I don’t expect him to be at a dominant level until July. Until then, I believe either Trevor Rosenthal or Carlos Martinez will be the closer. The question is can the bullpen keep up it’s domination? The Cardinals have been blessed with plentiful amounts of great pitching over the years due to their great scouting and development in the farm system but that doesn’t last forever. Other names to keep an eye on would be Sam Freeman, Tyler Lyons, and Angel Castro.
