The St Louis Cardinals have begun Spring Training to defend their National League Pennant. As pitching is a crucial aspect of the game of baseball, we will have a 3 part preview of the St Louis Cardinals pitching. Today, we will preview the starting rotation.

Projected Starting Rotation:

1. Adam Wainwright

2. Michael Wacha

3. Shelby Miller

4. Lance Lynn

5. Jaime Garcia/Joe Kelly

Outlook:

Adam Wainwright is the ace of the Cardinals rotation and will be for the foreseeable future. Michael Wacha has proven himself to be 1a to Wainwright but for consistency, he is the number 2 starter in the rotation. I believe that Mike Matheny learned from his mistake by not playing Shelby Miller in the playoffs and will make him the number 3 starter in the rotation to show him that he is a valuable member of this team moving forward. Lance Lynn is the no brainer 4 starter so that leaves Jaime Garcia or Joe Kelly to be the 5th starter. Jaime Garcia is ready to go but how effective will he be? The Cardinals would love to have a left hander in the starting rotation but winning games is more important. I think in April and May, the Cardinals will give both pitchers a chance to show what they can do as a consistent starter and will make a decision from there.
