In anticipation of Spring Training, Arch Authority will preview each position group for the St Louis Cardinals. Today we will focus on the position of first base.

Projected starter: Matt Adams

Potential Back Ups: Allen Craig, Matt Carpenter

Prospects Pipeline: None

Outlook:

First base is the most solid position group for the St Louis Cardinals. If Matt Adams spent any time on the disabled list, Allen Craig could take over and either Oscar Taveras or Stephen Piscotty can play in right field. Power is what Matt Adams will bring to the lineup and his defense is above average. No immediate prospects for the Cardinals in the farm system at first base which makes sense since Matt Adams just came up through the farm system. Potentially Steven Piscotty could get some time at first base just to find some playing time for him but for now, Matt Adams is the man at first base. How he will handle being the everyday first baseman is up to Adams but the future is bright at first base.
