What will the 5 man rotation and who will be the odd man out?

With Chris Carpenter likely to retire, the St. Louis Cardinals have a stockpile of starting pitching talent. Adam Wainwright, Joe Kelly, Michael Wacha, Shelby Miller, Lance Lynn, and Jaime Garcia are all capable starting pitchers in the major leagues. Jaime Garcia is the only left handed starter of those 6 pitchers so I expect the Cardinals to take a wait and see approach with Garcia. Wainwright, Wacha, and Miller are untouchable so that leaves Joe Kelly and Lance Lynn as the odd man out. Both will likely be shopped around to gauge the market for each of them.

John Gast could also be a starter down the road. Although he didn’t do well this season at the major league level, he started 7 games in Memphis this past season, he went 3-1 with a 1.16 ERA. If he continues to impress as a starter at Memphis, he’ll get another chance in the majors.
