Last week, Missouri Tigers Head Coach Gary Pinkel decided to name James Franklin as the starter for the opener against Murray State. The Missouri Tigers need a successful season in the SEC to keep Mizzou fans hopeful that the move to the SEC was a good idea. The question is, can James Franklin lead the Tigers to success in the SEC?

James Franklin’s career at Mizzou has been disappointing to say the least. He isn’t much of the dual threat that Brad Smith was running the ball, only rushing for 122 yards last year. He also isn’t a gunslinger like Chase Daniel and Blaine Gabbert was only throwing for 4,533 yards in his entire career. Chase Daniel threw for 4,300 yards in 2007 and Blaine Gabbert threw for over 3,000 yards in each of his 2 seasons as a starter.

Entering his senior season, James Franklin has to take the next step as a quarterback or his football career is over. He will have to be more consistent and stay away from injury to be successful. He will need to throw for 3,500 yards and add at least 400 yards rushing to be successful in the SEC. Now, he needs to do it.
