Today on MLB Trade Rumors, they mentioned the top 2 destinations for Jake Peavy of the Chicago White Sox would be the Boston Red Sox or the St. Louis Cardinals. Also, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post Dispatch wrote about how the Cardinals are also interested in White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez. It’s obvious that the Cardinals are interested in being trading partners with the Chicago White Sox, the question I have in regards to Jake Peavy is this:

Is Jake Peavy worth what you might give up?

His contract is a little steep potentially for the Cardinals liking. The Cardinals would have to pay the remainder of the $14.5 million owed for the rest of the season and $14.5 million next year. He does have a $15 million dollar option for 2015 only if he meets certain criteria. I am not sold that it makes sense for the Cardinals to get Jake Peavy. The money owed to him is a killer for the deal in my opinion. He is 7-4 but the high 4.19 ERA just doesn’t seem like a good deal to me. If the Cardinals don’t have to part with a top end prospect (unless it includes Alexei Ramirez), I don’t believe Jake Peavy is worth it.
