Sometimes taking care of business is what you need to do to establish your supremacy and that’s what the St. Louis Cardinals did on Tuesday night. The Cardinals beat the Houston Astros 9-5. With the Pittsburgh Pirates losing to the Oakland A’s, the Cardinals take a 1.5 game lead in the NL central.

Adam Wainwright was outstanding pitching 7 innings and giving up only 1 earned run and 9 strikeouts. The Cardinals offense struck early and often. Matt Carpenter lead the team going 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs. Other Cardinals earning an RBI is Carlos Beltran, Matt Holliday (2), Allen Craig (2), and John Jay. David Freese and Daniel Descalso had multiple hits tonight.

The Bullpen has once again left a lot to be desired. The Cardinals were able to take an 9-1 lead into the top of the 9th inning but the bullpen had it’s troubles once again. Randy Choate and Michael Blasek  gave up 4 earned runs in 2/3rd innings. Edward Mujica came in to save the game after that. The Cardinals need to find more consistency in their middle relief.

The Cardinals play the Houston Astros tomorrow night at 7:15pm central time.
