The St. Louis Cardinals are 43-24 and are on pace to win 100 games this season. But the work of a general manager is never complete. John Mozeliak must balance the current goals with the future goals of the St. Louis Cardinals. Which brings us to Troy Tulowitzki. This has been something Cardinals fans have been enamored with since late February, their doesn’t seem to be a lot of talk right now. He fits what the Cardinals look for when trading for top MLB players, a consistent performer who has years on his contract.

But let’s say the Rockies organization calls up John Mozeliak and say “who could you give up in return for Troy Tulowitzki?” Here is a list of Cardinals I believe could be trade candidates for Troy Tulowitzki:

Allen Craig or Matt Adams

Todd Helton is likely retiring at the end of this season and they need a solid first base option. I added Allen Craig here because I feel that the Cardinals might have to give up a great major league baseball player to get Troy Tulowitzki. Either one could be a chip in a potential trade and I believe the Cardinals wouldn’t miss a beat at first base.

Oscar Taveras

Oscar is likely not going to be on the table here because even though Carlos Beltran wants to finish his career with the St. Louis Cardinals. Oscar Taveras is the future in the outfield but I know the Colorado Rockies are very interested in Oscar Taveras.

Kolton Wong

This seems to be the likely choice of a top level prospect the Cardinals would give up for Tulowitski. Matt Carpenter is starting to solidify his spot at second base, which he had to move from third base because of David Freese. There is just no immediate place for Wong in the infield. Trading Kolton Wong to the Rockies straight up for Troy might be worth it because of the upside of Wong.
